MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Firefighters responded to a mulch fire that appeared to spark due to a problem with a machine.
Crews said the fire started around 3:15 p.m. Sunday at the City of Murfreesboro’s Fleet Services Department in the 4700 block of Florence Road.
Authorities said they found a mulching machine fully engulfed in flames.
"A large stack of mulch beside the machine was also on fire," said Engine 5’s Acting Captain Jim White. "Another pile nearby had embers on it."
Crews said they were able to work quickly and put the fire out within 45 minutes.
There were city employees and workers from the company who owned the machine on site when the fire happened.
"After speaking with the employees, it appears that the fire began as a result of an issue with the motor underneath the machine," Captain White said.
No injuries were reported.
