NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Fire officials said they're searching for "multiple people" after a large blaze broke out at a vacant motel in Nashville. Investigators called the fire "suspicious."

The Nashville Fire Department said the call came in Monday morning at the American Inn on Brick Church Pike. Sky 5 flew over the scene and showed heavy smoke, along with flames, in the front office of the structure.

Nashville fire officials say crews were on a medical call at a nearby Days Inn when a woman ran up and said there was a fire.

The woman said she had been sleeping in the abandoned motel when someone poured what she thought was gasoline and set the fire. She was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the fire quickly spread from the first-floor front office area to the rest of the building. Several people called 911 to report seeing the fire from Interstate 65.

The hotel has been vacant since at least 2018.
