A father is still grieving the loss of his 3-month-old daughter, while the infant's mother is behind bars, accused in the little girl's death.
This week's charges of Reckless Homicide and Child Abuse/Neglectcome more than a year after the death of 3-month-old Layne Earps in Dickson County.
Layne Earps was diagnosed with a respiratory illness that required treatments delivered by a machine.
Layne's father, Matthew Rachford, says Layne's mom, Rachel Earps, and her boyfriend Curtis Hall never gave her those treatments.
After a grand jury met, this week the two were booked for Reckless Homicide and Child Abuse/Neglect.
Matthew says he thinks of all the things his daughter will never get to do -- like graduate and get married.
"It really hurts, knowing as a parent I couldn't be there to protect her," Rachford said. "That's the hardest part to get closure on."
Layne's mother is being held on a $100,000 bond in the Dickson County Jail. Her court date is set for next month.
