NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF/AP) — Time is running out to vote early ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election. The 14-day early voting period ends today.

Secretary of State Tre Hargett's office says more than 1.8 million Tennesseans have voted as of the close of polls Monday, already surpassing the previous record of nearly 1.7 million early and absentee ballots cast during the 2016 presidential election.

According the Davidson County Election Commission, more than 188,000 people have taken advantage of early voting. With today being the last day, they are expecting long lines from open to close.

While this is expected to be a historic election, another reason for the long lines is the COVID-19 pandemic. Voters should expect several restrictions, like social distancing, but keep in mind, just because a line looks long doesn't mean it will take long. Poll workers have streamlined the process to keep things moving.

Polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. As long as you get to your polling place before closing time, you can vote.

Voters can find their early voting and Election Day polling locations, hours and more with the GoVoteTN app or online at GoVoteTN.com. The deadline to request an absentee ballot was Tuesday.
