NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Residents in Donelson have started their own neighborhood watch group after they say a man with an axe has broken into several neighborhood homes.
Despite being caught on camera multiple times, the thief is still on the loose.
Police say there has been a series of burglaries, including one at Christian Believers of Donelson Church on Sunday, which they believe involved the same individual. Police officials say they've identified a suspect and are working to solidify evidence so that arrest warrants can be obtained.
Homeowner Ann Bassett told NewsChannel 5 the thief broke into her Merry Oaks home in broad daylight about two weeks ago. He took one of her suitcases and filled it with other items in her home: TV, her laptop, power tools, and jewelry.
Bassett said she joined forces with her neighbors so they can keep an eye out for one another while the thief is still out there.
"We had made a point to have meetings and zoom and in parking lots," said Bassett. "So if there is a silver lining it is I gotten to know my neighbors and being very attentive to look out for each other more than ever before."
While no one has been hurt yet, neighbors are worried the thief may use the axe as a weapon. He's also been seen holding a hammer as well.
"It's very frustrating and aggravating that it's happening and multiple times," Bassett said. "Stuff is just stuff but it's the lack of peace of mind and how do we feel comfortable in our own home."
