NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — One person has died after a shooting at a North Nashville gas station off of Clarksville Pike Saturday.

A warrant was obtained for Treyvon Palmer, 19, for the deadly shooting of 22-year-old Jawauntez Powell inside the Corner Mart in the 2000 block of Clarksville Pike.

Metro Police reported that Palmer and Powell were waiting in line to purchase merchandise when Palmer suddenly made physical contact with Powell.

Palmer pointed a firearm at Powell, and Powell pulled out his own gun and shot at Palmer. Police say the exchange appeared to be in self-defense.

Palmer then shot multiple times at Powell.

Police say that Powell died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Palmer left the store following the shooting and went to General Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Palmer will be taken into police custody once he is released from the hospital.
