NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Unlike so many of the teams featured in our tributes, Ensworth actually got to finish out its season. The Lady Tigers won the Division II-AA state title in early March.
But what this Ensworth team did on the way to repeating as state champs is plenty deserving of a Curtain Call.
N.C. State recruit Dontavvia Wagner led Ensworth to a perfect 29-and-oh season, extending its winning streak to 45 games as it climbed into the top 10 of the national rankings, according to MaxPreps. The Lady Tigers blitzed through the state tournament, getting 31 points from Wagner in the state title game against Brentwood Academy to cut down the nets again.
With the perfect record and the high national ranking, Ensworth may have been the best team in any sport in the state this year. It’s time it got its Curtain Call.
