NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Country singer Morgan Wallen released a video statement asking his supporters not to defend him following his use of a racial slur.
"I appreciate those who still see something in me and have defended me, but for today, please don't. I was wrong. It's on me to take ownership of this," Wallen said in a YouTube video.
Video of Wallen using the racial slur surfaced last week following what he said was hour 72 of a 72-hour bender.
He said he talked with advocate groups who showed him grace and helped educate him.
Shortly after the video was made public, Wallen released a written statement apologizing and promising "to do better.”
He was removed from radio playlists. His label, Big Loud Records, announced the indefinite suspension of Wallen's recording contract.
