The Hermitage Cafe, a Nashville staple, for more than two decades got a major make-over and it was set to air Friday night on the Food Network's American Dinner Revival.
The project was kept under wraps by staff until it got closer to the show's air date which was set for Friday night at 8 p.m.
Owner, Tyler Callahan, said they had to close for business for 4 days while designers worked their magic. He didn't know what their final design would look like until the big reveal.
"I was nervous about it. I was like don't change too much but they didn't and they picked the colors out perfect for Sherri", said Callahan who sent his wife Sherri to Gatlinburg during the renovation.
Sherri's favorite colors are teal and grey, and designers incorporated both colors into the floor and the walls. Tyler told NewsChannel 5 they were contacted by the Food Network, but he didn't know who submitted their name.
He said he never saw renderings of what producers were planning to do with the place. He thought maybe they'd tear down the counter or the walls, but he was surprised to see they kept a lot of the old charm. They got rid of the old carpet and brought in new furniture.
"they did the new floors, we got new tables and chairs and then they skinned our counter top and they added this grey detail, I was shocked about that" said Callahan.
