MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — Middle Tennessee State University officials and country music star Chris Young unveiled plans for the Chris Young Cafe.

The newly renovated on-campus entertainment venue will will be a practice center for student entertainers by day and a performance venue by night.

It is located in the Woodmore Building in what used to be known as the Cyber Cafe.

It will be a community and dining space with two raised platform stages. It is surrounded by windows, allowing for natural light, and is an easy walk from the Bragg Media and Entertainment Building.

“When you’re teaching students how to manage, book and promote a concert hall, club or theater, having a working venue on campus is invaluable,” Media and Entertainment Dean Ken Paulson said.

MTSU President Sydney A. McPhee thanked the multi platinum entertainer for giving $50,000 toward renovations.

“MTSU will always hold a special place in my heart,” Young said. “It helped me launch my music career and I’m glad for the opportunity to give back to the University.”

Young who attended MTSU in 2005 says he's grateful for the opportunity to help bring this space to life for students.

“MTSU will always hold a special place in my heart,” Young said. “It helped me launch my music career and I’m glad for the opportunity to give back to the University.”
