NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — As part of Nashville International Airport's expansion and renovation project, the airport will close its central ticketing lobby starting December 16. It is not expected to reopen until 2023.

For ticketing, check-in and screening, passengers will need to use the north or south entrances, depending on departure. In August, the airport phased into two terminals, using the North Terminal for A and B gates, and the South Terminal for C and D gates.

There will not be a passage between terminals so it is important travelers use the correct entrance.

"Be sure to know your airline, be sure to know your gates, follow all signs to the correct terminal and you’ll be in great shape," said Kym Gerlock, BNA spokesperson.

The South Terminal services Alaska, Allegiant, American and Southwest airlines. The North Terminal services Air Canada, Boutique Air, British Airways, Cape Air, Charters, Contour, Delta, Frontier, Jet Blue, Spirit, Sun Country, United, Viva Aerobus and West Jet airlines.

BNA said if you enter the wrong side of the building, you'll need to exit and take the sidewalk to the correct side.

These changes come as more people could choose to fly home for the holidays.

"There will be a few more people, people's travel plans are fluid right now; so it’s hard to say and certainly traffic is down from where it was last year but we sill see a slight uptake at the holiday," said Gerlock.

During the Thanksgiving weekend, BNA saw a slight increase of travelers departing, Gerlock, the spokesperson for the airport says they can expect the same for Christmas.

And again, we're in pandemic, so Gerlock says if you must travel follow the health guidelines.

"We're asking you, hey if you feel sick, not feeling well don't travel. Then also, socially distance when you're in the terminal and we do require face coverings in the terminal and those are available for free if you forgot yours."

In this phase of construction, BNA is expanding the central terminal with a larger entrance hall, a larger central security checkpoint with 24 lanes, a new international arrivals facility, a new marketplace and extensive terminal renovations.
