(WTVF) — Voice activated devices may make life easier, but it could also put you at risk for a scam.

The Better Business Bureau says scammers are creating fake customer service numbers and bumping them to the top of search results by paying for ads.

When Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant perform a voice search, the algorithm may accidentally pick a scam number. The BBB provided some tips to avoid being a victim:

  • Look up the customer service number through the company's official website
  • Beware of fake ads
  • Use a credit card instead of cash or wiring money

The warning is really for people to just pay attention to what they are doing so they don't get scammed.
