Barren County Woman Shot; Boyfriend Arrested

A man has been arrested in Barren County, Kentucky after his girlfriend was injured in a shooting.

Authorities with the Barren County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 1700 block of Oak Grove Church Road around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputies said they found a female victim, later identified as 23-year-old Johnetta West, with two gunshot wounds.

West was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment in unknown condition.

Officials confirmed they were searching for West’s boyfriend in the case, identified as 28-year-old Cody Bartley. He had fled from the scene on foot before deputies arrived.

After 9 p.m. Tuesday, reports stated Bartley had returned to the scene of the shooting, the home where he had been living with West.

He was found by authorities in the neighbor’s yard and was taken into custody without incident.

Bartley was charged with assault 1st degree domestic violence, wanton endangerment 1st degree, and tampering with physical evidence.

The investigation remained ongoing into the cause of the shooting.
