NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Apps are a popular way for people to connect, and now song writers are getting into the game.
With artists moving to Nashville daily to pursue music, networking can be a challenge. An app was designed to help make connections through those obstacles.
Noah Cummins, a new artist who graduated from Belmont in 2018, struggled with making connections in the beginning.
"When I first said, 'this is going to be my career, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life,' it was hard for me to go like, 'how I am going to talk to someone, and sell myself in 30 seconds,'” said Cummins.
Now he’s writing with more experienced artists all thanks to an app called We Should Write Sometime. It was co-founded by Kevin McCarty.
"I just kept hearing the same thing over and over again, of how difficult it was to connect song writers and set up those co-writes,” said McCarty.
A few years ago, he and a friend had an idea.
"We kind of sat and did some research online and saw that there is nothing out there that specifically for song writes to connect and find co-writes,” said McCarty. "It's very similar to anyone that's used a dating app like Tinder or Bumble, for song writers as we call it. You got on there, you put up a picture a build a bio."
From there, artists try to find co-writers based on genre, style and what they're looking for.
The app even gives seasoned musicians a chance to try something new.
"You can always learn. you can always, learn new ways to say things, new rhyming patterns, new phrases,” said Chris Ferrara, a seasoned artist in the Nashville area.
Whether it's a new or veteran artist, one swipe could lead to that perfect match.
