Two people were killed and one other was injured in a shooting and stabbing at a home in the Governors Club subdivision in Brentwood.

Brentwood Police officers were responding to a report of a stabbing Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at a home on Governors Way in the upscale subdivision.

While pulling up to the home, officers heard gunshots.  Brentwood Police Chief Jeff Hughes said Emma Teeters, 39, and her father, Terry Teeters, 79, were both stabbed by Emma's husband, 55-year-old Jerry Matthews. Officers believe Terry Teeters then shot and killed Matthews.

“Obviously, it was an altercation between Jerry and his wife Emma,” said Chief Hughes.  “Terry had come to the aid of his daughter when he realized what was going on.”

Emma and Terry Teeters were both transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Emma later died.  Terry remained in the hospital after surgery for stab wounds.

Jerry, Emma, Emma’s parents, and Emma’s three children, all lived in the home.  At least two children were in the home at the time of the incident, but no one else was injured.

Brentwood Police say they were "familiar with Jerry Matthews" but could not give specific details about past incidents.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.

The subdivision used to be home to Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, and has also been linked to other celebrities.
