A private funeral service has been held for Merle Haggard.
The Country Music Hall of Fame musician died this week at his home in California after fighting double pneumonia. He passed away on his birthday at age 79.
Country entertainers Marty Stuart and his wife Connie Smith helped with the service Saturday.
Haggard had more than three dozen number one hits and performed as much as he could up until last fall.
Country music legend Charlie Daniels said Merle's great voice and distinct sound will never be matched.
“You could hear five notes of a Merle Haggard song, and you knew who it was,” Daniels said. “I could hear two notes and just about tell you who it was, and just about everyone could.”
Haggard was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994.
