Nikki-Dee Ray is a meteorologist who can be seen weekdays on Middle Tennessee’s number one morning show, News Channel 5 This Morning and News Channel 5 at 9am. A proud Tennessee Valley native, Nikki-Dee earned a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from Auburn University and Mississippi State University.
Her career began in Lubbock, TX, where she made history as the nation’s youngest female chief meteorologist. In 2015, Nikki-Dee moved to Richmond, VA, where she quickly became a trusted figure in the community. In 2020, she and her family relocated to Nashville, where she continues to serve the area. Throughout her career, Nikki-Dee has been honored with numerous Emmys, awards, and recognitions, but it’s her commitment to accurate forecasting, down-to-earth personality, and unwavering faith that have earned the deep affection of her audience.
Nikki-Dee’s love for weather began at an early age when she was a "Kid Caster" at WHNT in Huntsville. However, her true passion lies in serving her community—whether it's educating children about weather, fostering excitement for STEM, or advocating for individuals with special abilities. She strives to be accessible and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around her.
In addition to her career, Nikki-Dee and her husband, David, are children's book authors. Together, they wrote Laura-Leigh Learns About Storms, a book designed to educate young readers about severe weather safety and ease storm anxiety. The book also points children back to our Creator, reminding them that He cares for them, especially in times of fear and uncertainty. This project reflects Nikki-Dee and David’s commitment to helping children understand the importance of both safety and faith in the midst of life's storms.
Nikki-Dee met her husband, David, while working in Richmond, and together they have three children. The family values quality time and, as homeschoolers, cherishes the moments they share. For them, life is a vapor, and they are committed to making each moment count.
Nikki-Dee humbly shares, "I am simply a Christian, wife, and mom that just so happens to have a public job. While being a meteorologist is my profession, it doesn’t define who I am. My true calling is to make a meaningful impact, highlight the good, and use my platform to inspire others and further the Kingdom of God."
