A semi fire on the interstate has backed up traffic for several miles in Rutherford County.
The fire happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 near mile marker 96 close to Beechgrove around 1:51 p.m. Thursday.
According to reports, a crash also happened behind the cargo fire.
Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the right lanes were blocked to westbound traffic and drivers were being diverted to alternate routes. Eastbound traffic was experiencing some delays.
"We had to call in resources from Bedford County and Coffee County to establish a water supply, just because the amount of fire that was involved,” said Captain Larry Sloan of the Rutherford County Fire Department. “They responded. All total, I think there were four, fire departments on the scene, about 15 firefighters."
Crews estimated the roadway would be blocked for multiple hours.
Officials said the driver was not injured in the incident.
