A Smyrna man's video on massive mosquitoes in his neighborhood has been viewed thousands of times on Facebook, and pointed out a major concern for residents in the area.
Justin Beshearse works as a minister by day and a carpenter by night. He noticed how oversized the mosquitoes in Smyrna are.
He wasn't wrong. According to an owner of Absolute Pest Control in Rutherford County the blood-sucking insects were the largest mosquitoes he'd ever seen.
Beshearse halted his work due to the irritating bugs who swarmed him Monday night in his Victoria Park neighborhood.
"He looks like a cross between a hummingbird and a mosquito, a hybrid! I'm not exaggerating when I say when he landed on me the second time he reared his head back to plunge through my shirt," said Beshearse.
He said there's a retention pond behind his back yard, which made him believe it had become the insects' breeding grounds. It's owned by a developer.
Beshearse said, "They're people eaters! I know because I had to get bit by 'um to collect 'um!" He said he's spent a small fortune on spray and oils to protect his family.
So far, he hasn't found a repellant that works.
Jokingly pointing out he'd tried every option, Beshearse said, "I tried water boarding him to get some information out of him but he didn't respond well to it."
Travis Musharrafeia with Absolute Pest Control came out for a consultation.
Musharrafeia said, "I've never seen anything that big. Usually what we deal with are your average size mosquitoes."
Absolute Pest Control took the mosquito samples to a lab for testing.
They said they would give NewsChannel 5 an update once they figure out how to fight the super-mosquitoes.
