An elderly man and his 10-year-old nephew were able to escape his burning home after fire broke out Monday.
Nashville Fire Department crews were called out to the in the 800 block of Buchanan Street.
Heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the home.
The homeowner was treated for burns, and a fire captain suffered an orthopedic injury.
The cause of the fire was determined to be smoking. The home was a total loss.
