An investigation got underway in Memphis after a loaded AR-15 rifle was stolen from a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle.
The incident happened in the parking lot of a Fairfield Inn off Interstate 40 overnight Tuesday.
The trooper was spending the night when he found his car ransacked the next morning.
An AR-15 rifle loaded with 90 rounds was stolen from the vehicle. The thief also took a camera, computer and a $1,000 in cash.
THP has released very little information about the crime, stressing it's under investigation. They have not said whether the trooper violated any protocol.
In Memphis, nearly half of the guns stolen this year were taken out of car.
