A new plan unveiled by Murfreesboro city leaders hopes to cut down on crime taking place in Murfreesboro apartment complexes meant for students to call home.
It came after a string of shootings at student apartments in the area, one of which ended in a homicide.
After meeting with apartment managers Tuesday, the city urged student apartments with the most calls to police to more aggressively tow cars belonging to people who don't live at the apartment.
The city said apartments should make it easier in leases to kick out a tenant after being arrested for a drug or violence-related offense.
The city said it would also increase saturation patrols at student apartments.
"There are complexes we are having issues with," said Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland. "We're going to help fix it, but you are going to help fix some of the issues you're having in your facility."
