A mid-state mom's blog has gone viral after what she wrote about guns was shared around the country.
In the post, she talked about the new question parents need to ask before scheduling play dates: “Will there be guns in the house?”
“I know they wouldn't mean any harm having guns in the home but perhaps they just weren't thinking oh it’s on a high shelf or its on top of the refrigerator but kids get them and they find them and we know that from the statistics,” said blogger, Sarah Hays Coomer.
The author and personal trainer said she's been thinking more about guns ever since Sandy Hook.
Her son is 4-years-old and the growing number of mass shootings has her protective instincts kicking in.
She said that's why the blog post has gotten so many hits. Moms across the country have connected with it.
She said she’s not anti-gun. She supports the fundamental right to bear arms.
“Rather than arguing from one side or the other for the right to bear arms, we should be looking at common sense measure that can be taken,” said Hays Coomer.
She said those measures would be better storage practices and universal background checks which more than 90% of Americans support.
