A 21-year-old drowned on Kentucky Lake over the weekend, and officials with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has asked for the public's help in finding witnesses to the accident.

The fatal boating accident happened Sunday, July 31, around 4 p.m. on Kentucky Lake in Decatur County.

A pontoon boat carrying four people apparently hit a barge that was moored on the Tennessee River near river mile 135, a popular section of Kentucky Lake for recreational boaters and anglers.

Officials said 21-year-old Nickolas Willhoit of Jackson, Tenn was killed and the three other boaters were injured and sent to the hospital.

“The witnesses we have talked to said that the victim’s boat was traveling south near the Perryville area when it struck a barge moored to the west bank of the river,” said Ray Garton, sergeant with the TWRA. “We hope to talk with additional witnesses and are asking anyone who saw the accident to please contact us through our Region I office 731-423-5725."
