A Shelby County man has been charged in connection with a woman’s fatal stabbing at a Donelson motel.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said 22-year-old Ben Austin Bolton, of Memphis, has been arrested in the case.
He's been charged with criminal homicide and tampering with evidence.
Officers were called to the scene along Percy Priest Drive around 10 p.m. Tuesday. The victim was found stabbed to death in one of the rooms at the Lotus Inn and Suites.
The discovery was made after Officer Tyler Conrads noticed a blue Crown Victoria that had been left running near a staircase. He approached Bolton, who said a woman had been stabbed in his room.
Police said the victim was found wrapped in a blanket and appeared to have been stabbed in the throat.
During an interview, authorities said Bolton claimed an unidentified man was responsible for the stabbing. However, surveillance footage reportedly refuted that claim.
Police said Officer Bolton also admitted to manipulating multiple pieces of evidence, including placing the woman in a bathtub and wrapping her in bedsheets and blankets.
The victim was tentatively identified as an 18-year-old Memphis woman. The Medical Examiner was working to confirm her identity.
Bolton was held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
