Flash Flooding Creates Sinkholes In Middle TN

Two major sinkholes have formed in a road in Clarksville and Hendersonville after flash flooding hit the area.

Authorities said a sinkhole was found on Mossrose Road between West Happy Hollow Drive and Woody Hills Drive.

It was caused when part of the roadway collapsed and washed into a creek. A second hole formed due to a water main that burst. That section of Mossrose Road was closed until further notice.

Officials said they could not give a timeframe for when the road would reopen. They added those working on the road were assessing the situation.

According to neighbors, this has happened before due to rain.

Another sinkhole surfaced in Hendersonville, but didn't impact drivers by closing a road.

The hole opened up in the parking lot of a Japanese restaurant at New Shackle and Iris Drive right beside a storm drain and seemed to be in the grassy area as well.
