A scholarship fund has been set up in memory of Sonny Melton, the Tennessee man who was killed in the Las Vegas massacre.

Reports stated the Sonny Melton Scholarship Fund has been established to honor his life and legacy. Melton was a Big Sandy native, and the fund will assist Big Sandy High School seniors who wish to pursue a career in nursing.

Family members said Melton was a registered nurse whose only desire was to save lives.

The fund was set up with Apex Bank, where Melton’s mother has been a member for more than 40 years.

Officials with the bank said they’ve committed to match the first $50,000 in private contributions to the fund.

Sonny Melton's wife, Heather, spoke to CNN about the horrific shooting in Las Vegas that took the life of her husband and step-father to her three kids.

She described her husband as nurturing and caring, saying he would have saved others if he could.
