A woman has been charged with neglect after allegedly leaving her small child inside a hot car while she went in a strip club.
According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, officers were called to a strip club on Demonbreun Street Thursday afternoon after they received reports that a 9-month-old child was in a car.
Police arrived on the scene shortly after 4 p.m. and found a child inside a car with the windows rolled up. They went inside and asked to whom the baby belonged.
According to investigators, a woman identified as 19-year-old Summer Taylor said the child’s mother, 24-year-old Kelsey McMurtry, was on stage stripping and she was helping keep an eye on her.
When the child was removed from the car, police said she was found to be wearing a coat and was drenched in sweat. It was reportedly 72 degrees outside at the time.
The young girl was taken to an area hospital to be checked out. She was placed into the custody of the Department of Children’s Services.
Two witnesses told officers both women had been inside the club for at least 30 minutes before police arrived on the scene.
According to investigators, temperatures inside the car would have reached 101 degrees after 20 minutes and 106 degrees after 30 minutes.
McMurtry reportedly gave police a false name when they asked who she was. She was charged with child neglect and criminal impersonation.
Taylor was also charged with child neglect. Her photo was not immediately available.
