Emergency crews responded to the scene of a head-on crash on Murfreesboro Pike.
The wreck happened around 6:45 p.m. Sunday in front of Kroger on Murfreesboro Pike at Nashboro Boulevard.
Officials said three vehicles were involved in the crash. Witnesses told police a vehicle headed northbound hit a vehicle headed southbound head on at a high rate of speed. That's when the third vehicle rear-ended one of the others.
Authorities said five people were seriously injured in the crash, but they added none of the injuries appeared to be critical.
All lanes were initially closed as officials worked at the scene. The two northbound lanes reopened just after 7:30 p.m. Southbound lanes were closed for a couple hours. Drivers experienced delays in that area.
