Police have asked the public’s help in locating three suspects wanted for shooting and killing a maintenance man during a home invasion in east Nashville.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said the shooting happened just before noon Thursday at a mobile home park on Dickerson Pike.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old Anthony Jacobs.
Witnesses said Jacobs became concerned when he noticed three men armed with guns entering one of the mobile homes.
Suzanne Slater and her husband were home when the men burst inside and demanded drugs.
"We just don’t know anything," said Slater. "We don’t know why. We are innocent people. We weren’t the people they were looking for. These people were going to kill us."
Jacobs, who was a maintenance man on the property, ran toward the home and confronted the men. Police said at that time, he was shot.
Jacobs was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he passed away.
"He knew we were in trouble," said Slater. "He came to help us, and for that, he lost his life."
"I always raised him to take care of kids and the elderly, and try and help people," said Norman Jacobs. "All he was doing was trying to help."
Police said the suspects fled the scene. One of the suspects was allegedly heard saying the victims may not be the “right people.”
Two of the suspects were described as black males while the third was white. They fled the scene in a royal blue newer model Toyota or Hyundai sedan.
