Authorities have confirmed that a 47-year-old man was found dead following an apartment fire in Madison.
The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Saturday at the apartment in the 200 block of East Old Hickory Boulevard.
Residents in the area reported the fire at the single-apartment building. One resident said he ran in twice to try to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but he was unable to fully put it out.
That resident told officials the man inside appeared to have already been dead when he went in.
Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators confirmed they found several oxygen tanks inside the home.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation. The victim’s identity was not released.
