The crash happened around 9:21 a.m. Thursday, killing Younger and injuring three others.

According to a preliminary investigation, three TDOT work trucks had stopped on the side of the interstate with their emergency lights activated.

That’s when the semi, driven by 37-year-old Candelario Castillo, of Edinburg, Texas, failed to move over and hit one of the three TDOT trucks, driven by 59-year-old Carl Smotherman.

Castillo’s tractor trailer then continued on to hit Younger, who was not inside a vehicle, and a second TDOT truck, which had been driven by 22-year-old Santana L. Smith.

The tractor trailer then left the roadway and overturned.

Castillo and two TDOT workers, identified as Smotherman and Smith, were injured in the wreck.

The third TDOT vehicle on the scene was not involved in the crash.

THP officials confirmed criminal charges were pending.

Those with TDOT confirmed Wednesday, Younger had been with the department since 2010.

Visitation for Younger will be held at Woodbine Hickory Chapel on Nolensville Pike Sunday, May 1 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Another visitation will be held on Monday, May 2 at Woodson Chapel Church of Christ on Edmondson Pike from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m.
