Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol have identified and arrested the man wanted in a fatal hit-and-run crash.
The wreck happened Monday in Coffee County on U.S. Highway 41. Officials said the victim was struck and killed while checking his mailbox.
Authorities said the driver who fled from the scene also left behind a mirror that was identified as belonging to a 1999-2003 Mitsubishi Galant that was champagne in color.
According to reports, the suspect was believed to be at a home in the 100 block of Alva Jones Road in Warren County around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Officials confirmed the vehicle believed to be involved was also at that home.
Troopers were notified about the tip and went to the home to arrest the driver, later identified as Shelton G. Martin, II of Smithville, and secure the vehicle.
Martin was taken into custody around 7 p.m. Tuesday. He was taken to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. Further details regarding his arrest were not yet available.
