Fighting for equality, LGBTQ activists held their annual fundraiser downtown.

The 22nd Annual Human Rights Campaign Nashville Equality Dinner was a big night for attendees on Saturday as they have continued to face uphill battles with Tennessee lawmakers.

In addition to the dinner, global music star LeAnn Rimes was honored with this year's Ally For Equality Award, which recognizes people outside of the LGBTQ community who use their voice and stand up for equality for all people.

The event raised awareness and funds in the fight for equality.

In Tennessee, there are about 17 anti-LGBTQ bills currently filed in the state's legislature.

Saturday night, people also celebrated achievements in the LGBTQ community.

In 2016, marriage equality was recognized, and most recently, the bathroom bill failed in the state senate.

Mayor Megan Barry gave a few remarks about a push for more equality in Nashville, and State Senator Jeff Yarbro was there, as well.

The Human Rights Campaign has been America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for LGBTQ people.
