A 16-year-old has been charged after he was found carrying a loaded gun at school.
Authorities said school resource officers acted on a tip Friday at Maplewood High School.
They discovered a freshman was carrying a loaded nine millimeter handgun on school property.
According to reports, the weapon was found in his backpack.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said when the 16-year-old was asked why he brought the gun to school he said, “I was just being stupid.”
The teen told police the gun belonged to a family member.
He was charged with carrying a gun on school property. No further details were available.
