A popular Nashville record store was not forced relocate after it became public last week that the building which houses Grimey's New and Preloved Music is up for sale.
Grimey's is located at 1604 8th Avenue South inside of a nearly century old building.
The owner is trying to sell the record store's home for more than $3 million, but the sale comes with a stipulation, any current tenants, including Grimey's must stay.
"It’s a big relief to me that we’re not facing an eminent need to move the business," Grimey's co-owner Doyle Davis said on Thursday.
Doyle said the record store which houses thousands of new and used vinyl records and C.D.'s moved in to the current space back in 2002. Unlike other long time Nashville businesses facing untimely deaths because of a booming real estate market, Grimey's will not be facing an untimely death because of development.
"It’s been for sale for a few months but it’s only when the signs when up that we got all this attention for it because now people driving by see a for sale sign on this beloved introduce they patronize and get concerned," Doyle said.
"People are seeing a lot of things get torn down [but] I don’t think there’s any desire to tear this building down," he added.
To customers it is music to their ears.
"Usually it’s going the other way, clear out, get your stuff and the wrecking balls will be in after a week. I’m glad they’re gonna stay," said Paul Farish who came in to buy a record from Cookeville.
