Body of Rockvale man who fell off boat recovered in Smyrna

SMYRNA, Tenn. (WTVF) — The body of the man that fell from a boat near Stewart's Creek Boat Ramp on Smyrna Road has been recovered.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said Billy Stanford Capps, 62, and his wife, Lisa, were boating when he fell out of the back of the boat. After Billy fell, Lisa attempted to throw him a life jacket, but he was unable to grab it.

“Firefighters and the dive team had two different hits with the sonar and a dive team was sent in to check it out,” Sgt. Nick Coble said. “The dive teams recovered the body."

Also responding to the call were Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency and Nashville’s Office of Emergency Management.
