Embattled Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold met with federal officials to address whether or not he has violated the terms of his pre-trial release.
Sheriff Arnold arrived late Wednesday morning in downtown Nashville and didn't talk to reporters.
He got to the just moments after Joe Russell, the sheriff's chief administrator and co-defendant, was leaving the building.
NewsChannel 5 tried to ask Russell why the two were there to meet with federal officials, but got no response.
"Can you tell us have you talked to the sheriff at all. What was the conversation like up there just now??? Any comment for the people in Rutherford county about the sheriff's department?"
Russell didn't say anything. Both he and Arnold were indicted on federal charges for profiting off inmates by selling e-cigarettes in the jail.
Wednesday's meeting at the federal courthouse was to address his pre-trial release, which allowed Arnold to remain free while awaiting his February trial.
However, the topic of conversation was whether or not Arnold maintained the requirements necessary to stay free.
Newschannel 5 learned that two sheriff's deputy squad cars responded to Arnold's Murfreesboro home Monday night.
No police report was filed, but federal officials and others wanted to know why the deputies were there - if something happened that violated the terms of release Arnold would be sent to jail until trial and and would be sheriff in name only.
Both Arnold and Russell do meet with federal officials each month who supervise their pre-trial release.
Sheriff Arnold did not respond to NewsChannel 5's questions asking about the deputies visiting his home over the holiday weekend.
