Around one hundred students filled the student center at Belmont University to watch the Presidential debate.
There was a spirited crowd at the watch party. At several points, students clapped, cheered and laughed at comments made during the debate. Students said they felt both candidates covered the big issues and made their views clear.
"I was really pleased with how how Donald Trump reacted," said Jacob Sykes, President of College Republicans. "He had a good balance of emotion."
"I think Hillary Clinton has done a great job standing up for herself, not giving back when trump came at her strong," said Silas Deane, President of College Democrats."
A total of 100 million people were expected to tune into the debate across the country Monday night.
There was a lot of interest in the election among Belmont students - especially because of the school's history.
Belmont hosted a presidential debate in 2008 between then senators Barack Obama and John McCain. The university was also selected an alternative host site for the presidential and vice presidential debates this fall.
The school has hosted voter registration drives to help get students engaged and involved in this election.
"Millenials don't show up to vote. We have a lot to say on Facebook and Twitter, but we don't show up at watch parties or at the polls. I think this election will be different," said Chris Dickerson, Belmont Student Body President.
Belmont planned to host other watch parties for the upcoming debates, as well, and based on the attendance Monday night, the school expected the strong turnout to continue.
