A large transformer fire in downtown Nashville cut power to thousands and damaged cars parked nearby.

The fire broke out Monday afternoon on Woodland Street and James Robertson Parkway.

Details of what cause the fire were not released.

Nashville firefighters had to allow the fire to burn until the Nashville Electric Service to shut off power to the transformer.

Once the power was cut, firefighters were then able to get the flames under control. The fire temporarily cut power to more than 5,000 NES customers as well as several traffic lights.

No one was injured in the fire, but some cars parked in the lot near by were damaged.
