Woman Accused Of Crashing Funeral, Grabbing Body In Casket

A Columbia woman was arrested after crashing a funeral while drunk then allegedly tried to grab the body from the casket.

Offiers arrested 36-year-old Cynthia Frierson at the Roundtree Napier Funeral Home in Columbia.

Gary Stovall who lives across the street from where he said Frierson often stays. 

"Police is always being called back and forth over there for something that she's done or doing," said Stovall. 

However, her the latest incident at the funeral home began on South Glade Street when a resident reported their parked car was hit by a passing red truck, as officers responded another call, much the same just down the road.

Within minutes, officers knew where their suspect was because, yet another call came in to police.

The call came from funeral home, where witnesses told officers Frierson showed up during a service, walked up to the casket and began grabbing at the body inside. At one point, witnesses said she attempted to get the body out of the casket.

"It really wasn't shocking because I knew her capability, what she might do. You want to think she wouldn't do anything like that," Stovall said. 

Stovall has known Frierson since her childhood and said she needs heavy rehabilitation. "It's sad to see a young person ruining their life like that, the way she's doing and the situations she gets in," said Stovall. 

Frierson faces a slew of charges including public intoxication and disorderly conduct at funerals.
