Boy Battling Leukemia Asks for Birthday Cards

Birthdays are a big deal when you're two going on three years old. Isaiah Davis, who idolizes Spider-Man, knew he wanted to be surrounded by superheroes on his big day this Sunday.

But Isaiah will be celebrating from a hospital room at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

"He was sick for like three weeks and they thought it was a virus," said Isaiah's mother, Jessica Brandon. "Probably within an hour of us getting to the Children’s Hospital they diagnosed him with leukemia."

Isaiah was months into his battle, but unfortunately, he'll still be receiving treatment on his third birthday and on Halloween. Two dates all soon-to-be three-year-olds should get to experience surrounded by family and friends.

Jessica said she knows what it's like to miss those milestones.

"I have been in the hospital for probably half my birthdays in my life and it is awful," Jessica said, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of 2. "There’s nothing you can do. Everyone is out celebrating your birthday and you can’t even be there – not focused at first."

That's why in a Facebook post she asked anyone able to send birthday cards to her son

"This morning we had 25 cards and people are sending him birthday gifts and he loves it," she said.

As the stack of cards gets bigger every day, Isaiah's smile gets bigger too.

Sometimes a smile is all you need to feel like a superhero strong enough to take on the biggest bad guy of all.

"It’s adorable," Jessica said. "I like seeing him smile."

If you'd like to send Isaiah a card, you can mail it to:
