A pedestrian was killed after being struck on Interstate 40 in Cheatham County.
The incident was reported shortly before midnight Saturday in the westbound lanes at the McCrory Lane exit near Pegram.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officials said 30-year-old Jeffrey Shaun Andexler was fatally struck after entering the roadway from the left shoulder at mile marker 190. They said the vehicle was unable to avoid him.
It's unclear at this point why he entered the roadway, but family members said he was saving his son.

The interstate was closed for several hours while authorities remained on scene. No charges were filed.
